How to Recondition Old Car Batteries in 3 Easy Steps
What did you do last time your car battery started to not hold as much charge as it used to? I bet you just got a new one installed. The problem is new batteries are expensive and the old ones contain all sorts of stuff that can damage the environment. Did you realize that in most cases it is possible to recondition old car batteries to their former glory. This will not only save you money, (a lot of money,) but also stops your old battery from damaging the environment. Read on to find the 3 steps you need to take to rejuvenate your old car battery.
The first step to be taken is test the voltage of your battery with a hand held meter. You'll need to do this because if the voltage does not read at least 12 volts, there may be a faulty cell in your battery. You will need to carefully avoid wasting your time on batteries that are not economical to repair, and this voltage test is the first step in doing this..
It'll be very important to complete this first step correctly, completely and well. If for any reason you cannot complete it correctly, and if the battery will not read 12 volts, it is probably best to move on to the next one. You can always go back and test each cell individually at a later date.
The second step is to test the battery fluid itself using a hydrometer, (available from your local car repair or hardware store.) Just dip it into each fluid reservoir, and suck a sample of the fluid up into its reservoir. The bulb should float in the green area on its scale. What you should avoid here is getting any of the fluid on your skin or clothes, as it is acidic and may burn. Also, if non-sealed battery has a.030 (sometimes expressed as 30 "points") or more difference in specific gravity reading between the lowest and highest cell, then you should equalize the battery using a battery electrolyte fluid solution additive. These additives are available on-line or from car parts stores.
The last step is to fully recharge the battery. This is very important because if your battery is not fully recharged it may not prove reliable. What is important to avoid is when connecting the charger circuit always connect the red lead or positive first, and when finished disconnect the black or negative first. That way there will be no sparking at the terminals.
Go through the steps just as laid out above and everything should go well. You'll have handled reconditioning an old car battery easily and rapidly. Just keep to the steps in order, for the reasons as explained, while carefully avoiding the traps, problems and potential mistakes mentioned. Then enjoy the fruits and great things about having reconditioned your own car battery. Remember this is a skill you can perform for others, and you cal also resell reconditioned batteries for much less than a new one. This will be money that you will have earned by your time and energy alone, as you can pick up old batteries to recondition free of charge.

Battery Desulfator Schematics: A Helpful Tool for Battery Reconditioning
Sulfur crystals start to form and cover the plates of lead when the voltage of a lead acid battery declines to a charge below 12.3 volts. The buildup of sulfur crystals inside the battery then results to the internal battery being irresponsive, in effect, making it useless.
An effective way to remedy this is to use a battery desulfator. What it does is to send pulses of high-voltage in order to disintegrate the accrued sulfur crystals inside. A battery desulfates according to its size. For example, a sixty pound battery for your car takes 3 weeks to completely desulfate.
A lot of people have a hard time understanding the process of desulfating a battery. However, if you only gather enough information and read on the following carefully, you might have a better grasp and appreciation at what a battery desulfator schematic is.
1. To get you started, test your battery first to examine whether it may be considered for reconditioning. It is important to remember that only selected batteries can qualify for a recharge. There are actually some that are rendered useless.
2. With a multi-tester in hand, determine the remaining voltage of the battery. A battery can qualify for reconditioning when it has a low charge. Also, individual cells may be applied with several procedures, still through a multi-tester, to measure the voltage left. Note that these cells should be tested according to their own charges.
3. In any case where the battery does not show a charge, examine its water level. Refill the battery with ionized water if water level is low. With a trickle charger, charge the battery for 24 hours. The following day, check on the battery for a charge.
4. Reconditioning is only possible for a battery that shows a charge. If by any chance your battery shows a charge, as an initial procedure, start the process of recharging with the battery desulfator schematic.
5. Link the battery and the desulfator together. Make sure that the positive lead with the positive pole and the negative lead connects with the negative pole.
6. The desulfator is often inclined to lessen the energy of the battery thus resulting to a reduced voltage of the battery. A twelve-volt charger can do just the trick to remedy this tendency.
7. Keep track of the daily improvement of the reconditioning process by way of a low tester.
8. As said earlier, completing the process of recharging depends on the size of the battery. Some will take days and some, weeks. To further examine the development of the process, it is recommended that you check on the specific gravity and level of voltage of the battery as well. Subsequently, apply equalization charge.
9. It is expected that voltage charges are to increase. Upon reaching a 14 volt charge, your battery is considered reconditioned.
Keep in mind to follow thoroughly the instructions given to get desired results and to maintain safety. Reconditioning batteries is actually easy and in fact, practical. It helps you save a lot of money and contributes to the environment as well. With battery desulfator schematic, you can recondition your batteries with no sweat!

So, Your Starter Is Just Clicking
Does you starter make a *click* sound when you try to start your vehicle?
Each time you turn the ignition switch to start, does the starter just *click* one time?
That is probably the starter solenoid.
If it goes, *click-click-click-click*, and so on, it may just be a low battery.
A low battery that makes the starter *click* a few times doesn't have enough *juice* in it to turn the starter over to turn the flywheel over to turn the crankshaft over to make the engine start...phew!
A simple way to tell if the battery is at fault is to turn the headlights on and turn the ignition switch to start.
If the lights go out, then the battery is probably at fault.
Course, you'll have to run real fast after you hit the start position in order to see if the lights go out...or have someone out there watching for you.:-)
You can purchase a small inexpensive battery charger at most malls, or parts store.
The best way to use a *trickle* chargers is to charge the batter all night, or all day, whichever pleases you.
You can try charging the battery. If it runs down again, then you need to do something.
Remove the battery terminals from the battery post, if you have the *post* type, and clean the post and the inside of the cable clamp.
If you have the side mount just loosen the 8mm bolt and clean the terminal where it comes into contact with the battery. Clean the part on the battery, too. :-)
Sometimes the battery will build up a lot of corrosion on the outside of the cable clamp.
When this happens, usually, the inside part of the clamp and post will create a hard metallic-like surface.
This stops the flow of electricity from the alternator to the battery.
When you use the battery's reserve, it's gone, no more being put in.
If the vehicle does crank, it will run off the alternator, which ain't good. :-(
If cleaning the post and recharging the battery doesn't solve the problem, you may need a new one.
Don't run to the nearest *convenience store* and buy a battery.
Take your battery to a place that sells batteries and have it checked.
If it is gone to where old dead batteries go, then you will have to purchase a new one.
You may have other problems...like the alternator; the tension on the alternator belt... several things could make the battery be low...did you leave the parking lights on when you parked, to go shopping? :-)

Car Battery Charger - How They Work
Battery Chargers for Automobiles
Once upon a time, the battery charger cables would be attached to the terminals of your battery, you pressed a button, and you hung around for a bit. You would peek at the dial occasionally to assure yourself that you weren't overcharging the battery, and you shut it off at the exact time it was done.
Luckily, the charging operations have become much easier than they once were. Nearly every car has a 12 volt battery, and so do marine batteries and power sporting equipment. You must use a battery charger that is correct for your battery to extend its life and save money in the long run. If you fail to use the kind of charger that is suggested by your battery manufacturer, the warranty you have on your lead acid battery, AGM, or gel cell may be null and void. Using an improper charger can destroy your battery.
To determine which battery charger is the best one for the sort of battery you have, there are some things you must know. First of all, find out what kind of battery is in your motor vehicle, and find out how much storage capacity it has. Because your car battery is typically just utilized when starting your automobile, for lighting, and for your music system when your car isn't operating, and the battery recharges when the car is running, you may not think that storage capacity is that important.
The regular automobile battery can hold around 50 amp hours, while a marine battery may store 100 amp hours. Both kinds of batteries furnish 12 volts of electricity; however, if entirely dead, they will recharge for different quantities of time with a charger that carries 10 amps, say six to eleven hours, respectively. Be sure that the automobile battery charger you are purchasing has enough charging power to satisfy your requirements. If a charger has more power, the time that it will take to get your battery up to speed will be less.
Hopefully you can take this information with you on your venture into getting a new car battery charger for yourself or someone you know. In any case we at least hope you have had a pleasant and informative read of our work to bring you up to speed on the matter of car batteries and their associated chargers. Until next time, enjoy and good luck in all you do.

Golf Cart Battery Maintenance Tips
Electric Golf Carts typically are powered by six lead-acid batteries mounted on a metal rack under the seat. A 36 volt system has six 6 volt deep cycle batteries and a 48 volt system has six 8 volt batteries. This type of golf cart battery must have distilled water added on a regular basis. Each golf cart owner uses their cart differently and this pattern will determine how often the batteries will need to be maintained. If you utilize your golf car 5 - 7 days per week playing golf, working around the house, or on the job then you must check the water level in each battery every 10 - 14 days. If you use it less than that then it is important to check your batteries at least once a month. It is not recommended that you add any additional acid to any battery.
Do not over fill the batteries. Fill each battery cell to within about one-eighth to one-quarter of an inch from the lower lip of the fill hole. This will allow the battery to "breathe" during the charging process. Distilled water should be added, if needed, after the charging cycle has been completed unless the tops of the internal plates are exposed. If you over fill the battery it can cause the battery to overflow during the charging cycle and allow acid from the battery to get on the golf carts body, chassis, frame work, and more then the corrosion and rusting process could begin.
To help with the watering of your golf cart batteries many people utilize a battery watering system that can be purchased from your local dealer or from the many online dealers. Before charging you should inspect the batteries. Visually check all terminals for frayed contacts and loose or damaged terminals. Inspect all battery terminals to insure that they are clean (free of corrosion) and each battery wire is tight and securely fastened to battery post.
During the "off season" the golf cart batteries should remain fully charged. Once the batteries are charged then the golf cart should be stored in a covered area. Check the batteries during the "off season" at least once every 30 days. The batteries should be recharged and the charger should be disconnect once charging is complete. It is not recommended that you leave the battery charger connected to the golf cart during "off season" storage. It is also important to keep your golf car batteries clean and free of all debris. They should be washed and neutralized with a water and baking soda solution.
It sound like a lot of work but it really only takes a few minutes to properly maintain your golf cart batteries and when properly cared for your golf cart batteries will give you many years of quality performance which, in return, will save you a lot of money. If you need assistance or you have additional questions you should contact the service department at your local golf cart dealership.
